So, 48 hours on this planet and she’s already lost her voice. She’s been crying lots and is croaky, like a crow with a cold. Second day in hospital, Jett fed from about 10am to 3pm intermittently. Latch is not great and mums in pain. I got up, showered and dressed, and went to breastfeeding class at 10:30. It’s tough moving around, the whole abdominal area aches and it was hard to stand up straight. Now, day 3, I am walking better and standing up straighter, but sitting up from bed is still challenging.
Second night in hospital wasn’t too bad, Jett stayed on me till about midnight, feeding and sleeping. Then just slept till about 4am, which meant I had to stay awake but I’m sure I dozed in small doses. 4am I changed your nappy and encouraged you to feed, but you we’re sleepy and it wasn’t easy to get you interested in the boob. 6am feeds again. Finally I got up to eat breakfast around 8am, leftover fried rice made by grandma. 9am dad arrives, and holds you in his arms while I shower, but you cried the whole time, that’s how you lost your voice I think. 10am your dad goes off to play squash.
Our room mates, mum Octa and baby Joanna had a restless night too. But you were a much quieter baby than Joanna. Lunch today was sushi, hurray. You’ll get your first taste of fish in the breastmilk later in the day.
The paediatrician came and cleared you for going home. My worry was hip dysplasia but your hips were “strong”. We’re trying to see if we’ll get a spot in the midwife at home service which would mean going home tomorrow (Sunday).
They tried to give you the hearing check but you we’re awake and unsettled. Will try again tomorrow.
