Jett the Needy @ 2 weeks

It seems nothing good or bad lasts that long. Last entry I was stressing about breastfeeding, wondering if I could go on with it for much longer, with all the pain and nipple damage. Miraculously last Saturday, our first day at 42 Bligh St, I tried breastfeeding on the right boob and the nipple pain was gone! Just a tingle/tickle which wasn’t unpleasant.

I was so relieved. No more shooting pain. Breastfeeding felt like an achievement, an honour badge I earned through pain and perseverance.

Unfortunately this lasted only 2 days. Now Jett, you’re in the habit of clamping down on the nipple at the start of the feed, and fussed as if unwilling to go on the boob, even though you’re hungry and demanding milk. Your toothless gum bites down on the nipple to slow the flow of milk, meanwhile milk is fast dropping out, wetting clothes and sheets and skin, making it slippery and difficult for you to attach. The conundrum. Good news is milk supply seems to be good. I can catch 20-30ml of milk from one boob as it drips out, while you’re feeding on the other. TMI?

2 days ago, Tuesday 12 Nov was a 36 degree dry and windy day. Fire threat level around Sunday was extreme and catastrophic. Our new home, only 4 days into our residence, next to Royal National Park was out on “watch and act” due to a fire at Loftus, only 2km away.

Our lovely new neighbours on both sides came to reassure us that it was going to be okay, and tell us all the preparation done by fire brigade. Nevertheless, your dad has been stressing all day and I knew he was going to be up all night worrying, so we packed up and came to Dulwich Hill.

On the way out of Kirrawee we encountered many fire trucks with sirens blaring, which made me more nervous than all the news and photos I had seen that day.
Dulwich hill was calm and far away from the action. We got a decent nights sleep.
