Jett the Strider @ 12 months

Dearest baby, you are absolutely gorgeous! Since your first birthday party, right on 31st of October 2020, you have suddenly started taking many steps.
At first you just took one step at a time and then you sat down and fell over, then you take 2 to 3 steps suddenly you’re taking seven steps. And now you can take so many steps I can’t keep count, walking up to the 3 metres at a time.

You are a little bit wobbly when you walk with your feet apart and your arms up in the air like a big cross. But the look on your face is always full of delight and excitement, as if you can’t believe you’re balancing onto tiny little balls of flesh.

I love that you are not at all afraid of falling, you don’t mind plonking down on your bum when you don’t feel stable, but most of the time you try and balance on your feet.

Before the walking started, you have been amazing at pushing the stepstool around, it makes a terrible noise rubbing against the floor boards. You can turn it and direct it to go wherever you like and out of tight corners as well. I think you learnt this from your brother who’s favourite game is just running as fast as he can pushing the little Ikea stepstool until he hit a wall. You also like to take the Walker and go to wherever I am or your brother is, or to other people and toys that interests you.

You are such a delight and joy. Yes you cry and whinge and put on the big waterworks show whenever something doesn’t go your way. But you also recover quickly, easily distracted by some dance moves, or songs or fast movement from your brother.
I can’t believe you’re a toddler now, not my little baby girl anymore. I look back on photos of you from birth and just get lost in those memories. I certainly don’t miss the 4 hour feeds and blocked ducts, but holding you so small and vulnerable against me are some of my best memories.
